The Expansion building of the Intermunicipal Community of the Aveiro Region aims to provide universal accessibility to institution, respecting the existing building and proposing new spaces for technical teams, a large meeting room, exhibition spaces and a store to promote the region.

Conceptually, the new volume aims to maintain the formal and volumetric autonomy of the old building, to which it is umbilically connected, and to bridge the gable of the existing building to the south.

Due to its public nature and representativeness of the institution, the new volume relates to the urban space by enhancing the small square in front of it as a transition space. The north elevation acts like a symbolic façade, modulated, open and crystalline, proposing a luminous urban moment both during the day and at night, with a large translucent canopy.
